MSP players shine in Wellington win

MSP's reps in the Wellington Lions played a big part in the team's 30-15 ITM Cup win over Hawkes Bay at the Stadium on 28 August.

Half the Wellington forward pack is from MSP and the one bright light in a lacklustre first half was the dominant scrum of the home team, with props Jeff To'omaga-Allen and Arden David-Perrot, No 8 Victor Vito and No 6 Lua Lokotui all contributing.

The match came alive in the second half and, from the point of view of a Wellington side trailing 15-6, it needed to. Hawkes Bay barely got out of their territory as the Lions notably lifted their intensity to score four unanswered tries. Victor Vito, whose class was evident all game, capitalised on the scrummaging to score a classic No 8's try from a pushover. Loosehead prop Arden picked himself up off the turf from an injury treatment to appear on the end of an attacking Wellington move and score in the corner.

Arden's all-round efforts drew praise from captain Jeremy Thrush, and he was substituted late in the game as another MSP prop, Solomona Sakalia, made his Wellington debut.

Wellington's next game is on Sunday 2 September against Southland at the Stadium.
