THE MARIST ST PATS SHAMROCK CLUB was established in 1992 to bring together companies and individuals who support Marist rugby.

Membership creates the opportunity to meet people in different areas of business, and to enjoy the social functions and benefits the Shamrock Club offers. Funds raised by the Shamrock Club are used for the benefit of players from schoolboy to premier level.

Shamrock Club benefits include:

  • complimentary corporate membership of the club
  • four tickets to the annual pre-Test dinner
  • two tickets to the Wellington Test
  • two tickets to the Test pre-match function (the total value of the Test package is around $700)
  • an annual golf tournament at Miramar
  • company advertising at the clubrooms and in the Red Machine newsletter
  • use of clubrooms for business or private functions (normal hireage $500).
SHAMROCK CLUB 2009 LAUNCHED:
The Shamrock Club launch for 2009 took place at the New Zealand Rugby Union, with Wellington coach Jamie Joseph and NZRU community rugby director Buck Anderson as speakers.
PIctured at the launch are (from left): Shamrock Club convenor Brian McGuinness, Jamie Joseph, MSP rugby committee member Brian Coulter, and MSP secretary Ken Ah Kuoi.

THE ANNUAL CELEBRITY DINNER, for around 300 people the night before the Test is played in Wellington, is a highlight of the Shamrock Club calendar.

Guest speakers in 2010 were sevens master Gordon Tietjens and rugby broadcaster John McBeth, who spoke on Friday night 16 July, before the All Blacks v Springboks test the following day.

In 2009, on the eve of the Test against the French, the speakers were Sky commentator Grant Nesbitt and horse trainer and raconteur John Wheeler.

A year earlier, before the Springboks test, commentators Tony Johnson from Sky and Kobus Wiese provided the entertainment. Back in 2005, when the Lions toured, the speakers were Welsh rugby writer Stephen Jones (below) and former All Black John Gallagher.

THE 2005 DINNER: MSP life member Dan Kelly points out to Stephen Jones that New Zealanders do in fact know something about rugby.

FROM 2001: MC Tony Duffin (centre) with guest speakers Eric Rush (left), and Keith Quinn (right).

PUTTERING AROUND: Members of the Wananavu team at the 2003 Shamrock Club golf tournament at Miramar - from left: Laurie McPherson, Kevin Morris, Wayne Morris, and Paddy McIlroy.
