Our newest interclub trophy will be contested on 31 May when Marist St Pats host Johnsonville for the Trent Eagle Cup. The cup will be contested between our two Premier Men's sides on an annual basis.
The new cup is of course in recognition of Trent Eagle, who contributed hugely to both clubs in the 1990s and 2000s.
Trent played 125 games for the Hawks, including many as captain, before making the move to the Red Machine.

He had great success in his 95 Premier games for Marist St Pats, winning three Jubilee Cup's including captaining the side to a Jubilee Cup title in 2002. He famously led the side as they beat a Hurricanes-laden Old Boys University 18-13 at Wellington Stadium in that year’s final, forming an strong midfield combination with Norm Broughton
Trent also coached 7s at both clubs. He coached the Marist St Pats 7s team between 2000-2005 winning the New Zealand Marist 7s tournament 5 year in a row, the Byron Bay 7s, Mount Manganui 7s and Taupiri 7s. Trent also helped Marist St Pats reach the Jubilee Cup final in 2007 after he retired from playing.
Based in Sydney for over a decade, Trent was honoured by the introduction of the interclub trophy: 'I am extremely proud and honoured to have this cup being put in place between Marist St Pats and Johnsonville, both clubs hold a very special place in my heart and both played a huge part in my life, not only with rugby but life long friendships. I am very humbled by this honour.'
Join us at Evans Bay Park at 2.45pm on 31 May for the first Trent Eagle Cup contest, followed by it's first presentation at the clubrooms.
