Wellington Junior Club Rugby is a skills development programme where children can thrive in an environment of fun, learning and the challenge of fair and even competition. The age/weight policy and modified rules are designed to allow children to play rugby with other children of similar age, weight and ability in the safest environment possible.
All players in the U8 to U13 tackle grades have a compulsory set weigh-in day at the beginning of the playing season. Regardless of when a player first registers for the current playing season they must weigh less than the maximum weight for their age at the official Wellington Rugby Football Union (WRFU) administered weigh-in as per the table below.
At the weigh-in all players will be officially weighed and their photos taken to confirm identities.
The WRFU has zero-tolerance to players exceeding an age or weight for a grade. If a player exceeds the weight for their grade they are required to move up a grade which is why we do a preliminary weigh-in at the MSP registration events to be confident the player is in the appropriate grade and minimise potential disruption to teams and players.
If you're not officially weighed, then you are not eligible to play.
Dispensations are possible but only in specific circumstances, e.g. health or development. You need to enquire with the MSP Junior Convenor prior to the weigh-in event if seeking a dispensation - firstname.lastname@example.org
The weigh-in event will be run on Saturday the 10th April. The schedule of times is yet to be advised, however it is likely the club will have a window somewhere between 8:30am to midday.
The weigh-in event will be run at Wests Clubrooms at Ian Galloway Park. Click here for a map.
