Club Captain's appointed for 2024

One of the critical roles to keep good communications between our players, management and rugby sub-committee is the Club Captain.

In 2024 we will again have three Club Captain's to provide great coverage across the grades. Returning to their roles are Aaron Bouzaid (Internationals, Under 85s and Presidents) and Emele-Moa Makisi (Premier Women and Netball).

Supporting our Premier Men, Premier Reserve, Colts and Juniors we are pleased to share that Fred Lefaoseu will take on the role as our third Club Captain. While many will know Fred as a long time club member, he's shared more about his involvement at Marist St Pats.

'I started my club rugby career with the Wellington Axemen but decided I had enough of being smashed and bashed by Marist St Pats greats e.g. Norm Broughton and Pat Dunn, and it was time to join my family and friends in one of the “social” graded Marist St Pats teams, captained by my cousin and club great, Kalolo Afuie. After enjoying a very short and successful season in our family team, a number of us were quickly ushered to support other senior teams.

After a few years in the Seniors, Life Member Henry Fidow invited me to join our Pressies team where I’ve played since. It’s definitely better to play alongside Norm and Pat, than against.

Having played rugby since I was six years old, I decided after my 53rd birthday this year (or maybe it was the cracked ribs) to retire and assist Henry from the sidelines.  The sidelines have expanded and it’s an honour and privilege to help our club, as one of our club captains.

A principle I follow in life, supported by my Catholic faith and Samoan heritage, is to serve in the best way I can. I hope that I can fulfill and assist our club, our supporters, our coaches and management and especially our players, to be successful on and off the field.

I have yet to learn what the role as club captain requires and I’m hopeful I can meet the standards set by previous club captains.'

It takes an army of volunteers to keep our club running and we are grateful to Fred, Aaron and Emele-Moa for putting their hands up to get involved!
