The Marist St Pats Shamrock Club is celebrating its 20th birthday in 2011. The Shamrock Club is MSP’s business support group, set up in 1991 to bring together companies and individuals who support Marist rugby.
Membership creates the opportunity to meet people in different areas of business, and to enjoy Shamrock Club social functions and benefits. Funds raised by the Shamrock Club are used to support players from schoolboy to premier level.
The annual dinner for around 300 people the night before the Wellington Test is a highlight of the Shamrock Club calendar. This year's dinner will be on Friday 29 July, the eve of the test against the Springboks at the Stadium.
Ex-All Black Richard Loe and commentator Keith Quinn are this year's guest speakers, continuing the tradition of great raconteurs over the years. In 2010 sevens master Gordon Tietjens and rugby broadcaster John McBeth spoke, while in 2009 it was Sky commentator Grant Nesbitt and horse trainer and raconteur John Wheeler .
A year earlier, before the Springboks test, commentators Tony Johnson from Sky and Kobus Wiese provided the entertainment. Back in 2005, when the Lions toured, the speakers were Welsh rugby writer Stephen Jones and former All Black John Gallagher .
