Livestream proving popular around the world

Over the past few years, livestreaming of club rugby has become more widespread and is a great way for supporters to stay connected wherever they are.

Each week we stream our Swindale Shield match on Facebook thanks to the production work of Michael and Freddie Holden and our regular commentary team led by JP Tocker and who's guests this season have included Ken Laban, Lourdaiz Ah Chong, John Spillane and Matt Buck.

Saturday's livestream included dozens of viewers from around New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, the United Kingdom - and sideline stalwart Tim Kennard (pictured) tuned in from Tonga where he was attending a wedding!

Regular viewers tuning in from sunny Tauranga are club legends and life members Brian Coulter and Kevin Horan, who keenly follow the Red Machine from their new home in the Bay of Plenty.

Brian 'Ice' Coulter sent us this message after watching the game on the weekend:

I have thoroughly enjoyed the four Premier games that I have watched live or post match.

The obvious spirit, energy and quality displayed by all the players plus the intent to move the ball is a marked improvement on recent years and most enjoyable to watch. Keep that movement going!

If I may, as a TV watching expert, make one observation - keep the ball in hand and put the ball to boot only when necessity calls.

I am unable to be present on 11 May. Best wishes to The Club for a successful all round day and to those members with whom I had so much enjoyment on / off the field over many years.

Marist St Pats will continue to livestream our Premier home games throughout the season and we will share opposition streams for away games when available.

On Saturday Mat Kalolo (father of Colts player Noah) also streamed the Colts game on YouTube. He will do this occasionally throughout the season and we will share the link on our Facebook page when he will be streaming.

We occasionally get asked why we only stream the one game each week - the answer is fairly straightforward, the production and commentary team have young families and we support their need to balance their family life with their contributions to Marist St Pats!

Catch the livestream on our Facebook page every home game. The video will appear on our page about five minutes before kick off - be wary of scam links purporting to have links to various games.
