President's Monday Musings

From the pen of Club President, John Spillane...

A great first weekend: Okay, we got some good results on the field in the weekend out at Norths – but as good as that was the best thing from my perspective was what I saw on the field – throughout all the games and after the match – at Jerry Collins Stadium and in the Norths Clubrooms:

  • I saw Marist St Pats teams playing good rugby (considering it was the first competition game of the season).
  • I saw discipline and control – mixed with flair and pride in the jersey.
  • I saw the Norths Clubrooms 70 - 80% filled with Marist St Pats players and supporters.
  • I saw our lads looking united and connected (sporting their new dress shirts) and I saw Marist St Pats players, from different teams, all gathered, enjoying each other’s company, being respectful of their hosts and representing the Red Machine with pride.

I accept I was in a great mood given some of the results, but that did not influence my view of proceedings. The fact is there was a great feeling amongst the players, coaches, managers and supporters and we played and looked like a well-organized and connected Club.

The only downside of the weekend from my perspective was that due to the time spent at the Norths Clubrooms the lads didn’t get the opportunity to get back to our place at a reasonable hour – so it looks like this weekend (against Ories at home) is going to be the first Clubrooms night for many of the new players and the first big get together of the season for the rest of us.

Please, if you have any interest in Marist St Pats ugby whatsoever, get along on Saturday and watch the lads and please come back up to the Clubrooms afterwards to enjoy the company of old friends and the players of 2024.
