Player Profile: Rique Miln

The Evans Bay faithful have been buzzing about the new first-five in town as Rique Miln has been impressive over the opening weeks of the Swindale Shield. We caught up with Rique to help introduce him to members.

Tell us about home and your rugby background?

I grew up in a town called Te Puke in the Bay of Plenty and played all my age group rugby there before attending Hamilton Boys’ High School as a boarder.

I played for Hautapu Rugby Club after I left college and was a member of the Waikato Rugby Academy; I was selected for the Waikato Under 19’s but the representative season was cut short due to COVID-19. I then moved to Sydney and played for Randwick Rugby Club based in the Eastern Suburbs.

What is your favourite rugby memory?

Winning a Grand Final with Randwick at Leichhardt Oval in 2023 to take out the Henderson Cup scoring 13 points. The Galloping Greens won 3 from 3 Grand Finals including the Shute Shield, as well as the 3rd & 4th grade premierships.

[Rique was also Randwick's top scorer for 2023.]

What brought you to Wellington?

There was an opportunity to come to Wellington and represent Marist St Pats and hopefully push for higher honours.

How have you found Marist St Pats?

Marist St Pats have been very supportive and I have enjoyed the positive start and getting to know the boys and club stalwarts. It’s a club with a great history which I’m proud to be a part of.
