Women go back-to-back at New Zealand Marist 7s

Our Women's 7s team have won back-to-back titles at the New Zealand Marist 7s after beating Hutt Old Boys Marist in the final.

Breezing through pool play unbeaten, the very well organised side were a class above their opponents in the final. While the first half was fairly close, the floodgates opened in the second with a number of players scoring multiple tries to take the game 40-5.

While the entire 12 player squad were impressive, ultimately six players were named in the tournament team: Jane Bryce,Monica Tagoa'i, Ainsleyana Puleiata, Cheyne Copeland, Taimane Siaosi and captain Tina Va'aua-Hamlin.

With a large number of the team returning for the 15s season, the future is bright for these team. Congratulations to coach Ryan Setefano, who has put in a huge effort with this team.

Men fall just short in Cup Final

Despite their best efforts our Men's team couldn't match the Women's efforts falling just short of a repeat losing to Napier Old Boys Marist 12-14 in the Cup Final.

Boosted by a confident win over Palmerston North Marist in the semi finals, the team faced a stern challenge in the final against the Hawkes Bay 15s champions. In blustery conditions they found themselves down 0-14 at the half time break before Ryan Setefano scored two tries in return to trail by two. Our team just couldn't capitalise on opportunities in the dying minutes and NOBM ran out deserved winners after a very strong tournament.

Congratulations to Kerrod Foaese and Julian Tupai who were named in the tournament team.
