Tough week for Premiers; Women keep rolling

It was always going to be a tough week, playing OBU, HOBM and Poneke in eight days. They came up short again against Poneke, losing by a two point margin as they did on Tuesday.

A fired up Poneke side took it to our boys hard in the first half and raced out to a 6-21 half time lead. They were very clinical and punished a number of missed tackles and handling errors.

Fresh legs and a pep talk at half time saw the Red Machine come out with more intent in the second stanza. Another outstanding solo effort by wing Mike Buckley energised the side more and they fought back with front rowers Valentine Meachen and Ha'amea Ahio each bagging a try. With time running down replacement first five Dudley Parsons had a 40 metre penalty attempt to steal the game but it just drifted wide.

Earlier our Colts and Premier Reserves earned solid victories over Poneke; while our Women kept their perfect record with their third bonus point win from three games. They are five points clear at the top of their table.

All grades are now underway with some mixed results this weekend.

  • Premiers lost to Poneke 27-29
  • Premier Reserves beat Poneke 19-14
  • Women beat Tawa beat 45-7
  • Colts A beat Poneke 16-9
