Premiers close out tight win over Hutt Old Boys Marist

After enjoying long periods of territory and possession our Premiers ultimately capitalised on a strong second half performance to beat Hutt Old Boys Marist at Hutt Rec on Saturday.

The first half was a see-saw affair with HOBM scoring three tries to one, but the boot of Andrew Wells keeping the Red Machine ahead with a 16-15 win at the break. The sole MSP try of the first half came after a resurgent Ryan Setefano broke the defense to set up Isaac O'Connor under the posts (video below).

The Eagles came out firing in the second and scored their fourth try in the 43rd minute but the visitors weren't about to rollover. After finding their way over the line four times only for tries to be disallowed, the team found themselves down by one point with five minutes to play. The backline then stepped up with Willie Schutz, Billy Proctor and Andrew Wells combining for a 90 metre try to take the win!

This victory sees Marist St Pats in second place on the Jubilee Cup table with three rounds to play. We travel to William Jones Park next Saturday.

In the early games at Hutt Rec the Premier Reserves escaped with a close win with the Eagles missing a penalty in front on full time which would have given them the win. The Colts also had a see-saw match on the scoreboard but gave up a penalty try late in the game to go down narrowly.
