Premiers fall late to Tawa

Our Premiers have fallen short in a very tight match with Tawa with James So'oialo striking late to steal the one point win for the visitors.

After taking a six point lead into the break with first half tries to Valentine Meachen (video below) and Isaac O'Connor it was Tawa who came out firing in the second stanza. They took the lead back after 60 minutes before losing two players to the sin bin for repeated cynical infringements near the line.

The Marist St Pats backline were quick to take advantage with a try to Michael Buckley giving the home side a six point advantage with ten minutes to play. Sloppy defense near the line allowed So'oialo to pounce on a quick tap to dash through then kick a difficult conversion to take the win.

Earlier in the day our Premier Reserves edged out a close win on a muddy Kilbirnie Park while our Women kept the game close with Norths for most of the game before letting in points in the second half.

  • Premiers lost to Tawa by 29-30
  • Premier Reserves beat Tawa 18-12
  • Women lost to Norths 10-34
  • Colts lost to Tawa by 22-32

All other grades were cancelled.

Our Premiers travel to Hutt Rec next Saturday to play Hutt Old Boys Marist, early kick off at 2.15pm due to All Blacks vs Lions at Westpac Stadium.
