Dear Happy St Patrick's Day! We're three weeks away from the start of the rugby season, with our Senior teams starting their preseason games this Saturday after some Covid related disruptions. The Premier season is scheduled to kick off on Saturday 2 April, with confirmation to be made by Wellington Rugby on 25 March based on the Covid-19 situation. Our own Monica Tagoai and Ana Afuie made history on Tuesday when they took the field for the Hurricanes Poua in their first ever Super Rugby Aupiki match. We've caught up with Monica and Ana after this momentous occasion... >>>
In November last year we shared that Norm Broughton had commissioned a unique club haka to unify our club in celebration of achievements of our club family. Former Premier player Ngarino Te Waati (Brendon Watt) has composed this haka, 'Māriu Whakamautai', and joined our players in Wellington last month to support Norm in teaching our players and club members his composition. In our November update we shared the appointment of Li'i Alaimoana as our new Game Development Officer. This is a part-time role focused on making a contribution to college, schools, junior and wider community rugby programmes. While Li'i is a familiar face to many around the club, we wanted to better introduce him to all of our club community... >>>
