Titanic battle at Nairnville Park

Our Premiers have fallen in a very close game with Swindale Shield leaders Old Boys-University.

After we jumped out to an early lead by way of an outstanding try to Mike Buckley, OBU muscled their way back into the match with their big pack. At the half time break the sides found themselves locked up at 13-all.

Perhaps a game changing moment was one minute into the second half when Andrew Wells split the defense to run 50 metres only to drop the ball over the line. The home side then went back up the other end to score a try.

Despite MSP being hot on attack for most of the second half they held that advantage until 15 minutes to play when Willie Schutz intercepted and ran in to level up at 20-all.

OBU soon found themselves back in our 22 and while they enjoyed multiple attacking five metre scrums our defense held for a long period, pressure however resulted in a penalty giving the Goats a three point lead with two minutes to play. A late try extended the margin to eight.

In an unfamiliar position at No. 8 Corey Lawrence was industrious in the forwards, while Ryan Setefano and Billy Proctor are forming a strong midfield combination.

With a injuries forcing changes again, our side should take heart in a solid performance against an OBU side at full strength. They need to get back up quickly as they take on Hutt Old Boys Marist at Hutt Rec on Tuesday.

Earlier, our Women's side made it two-from-two after beating Petone with a bonus point. This win will see them sit at the top of their table.
