Premiers blitz Tawa to get first up win

After a shaky first 20 minutes which saw them fall behind 0-10 it was then one way traffic with our Premiers earning a bonus point 31-13 win over Tawa at the Wellington Rugby Gala Day at Upper Hutt.

A 15 minute blitz before half time saw Sean Bridge, Rez Tasale and Mike Buckley all dot down to give the Red Machine a 21-10 lead at the break for oranges. The second try came off a spectacular crossfield kick from Fa'atonu Fili to send Rez Tasale over for his first try in the famous red jersey.

The second half was more of a grind as our side found themselves defending for long periods, but the defense proved stoic with Tawa unable to find their way over the chalk again. Superior fitness saw the Marist scrum dominate in the last 10 minutes which allowed Peter Sciascia to score the bonus point try five minutes from full time.

The team showed real character and rallied behind captain Valentine Meachen to ensure that his 100th game was one to remember!

In the early game our Premier Reserves lost an arm wrestle, falling to Tawa who broke a 12-all deadlock on full time to steal the win 12-17.
