Parkes and Tagoa'i named in Black Ferns squad

Marcelle Parkes and Monica Tagoa'i have the opportunity to make Marist St Pats history having each being named in the 28-strong Black Ferns squad to play Australia in August. Should either take the field they will be the first MSP players to play for the Black Ferns.

The announcement after both players have taken great strides in rugby over the past few years, both for Marist St Pats and at representative level.

Marcelle (right) has had a meteoric rise in rugby having only started playing 15s this year after playing representative Softball and Netball for New Zealand. She played Sevens for Wellington last summer and was named in the Black Ferns contracted group earlier this year. We caught up with Marcelle following that announcement, read more.

Monica (right) has been playing rugby for a few years now and has been involved in a number of representative teams including the Wellington Pride and the Black Ferns Sevens Development team (with whom she traveled to Japan last year). She has scored nine tries in five games for Marist St Pats this year.

Marist St Pats extends our congratulations to both Marcelle, Monica, and their families on their inclusion in the squad. We are very proud of their achievements and will be following the sides progress with keen interest.
