Clean sweep amidst 50th celebrations

Saturday's 50th Jubilee celebrations were made all the more special with our team's getting the job done on the field. All four teams who played on the long weekend came away with victories.

Our Premier Women kicked off the day on Hataitai Park with a resounding 80-10 victory over Hutt Old Boys Marist. The side celebrated another of its stalwarts earning their club blazer as Anna Liumaihetau-Darling played her 50th game.

Next up the Premier 2 Men hosted Upper Hutt Rams in an extremely close game where the lead switched hands a number of times. A strong second half brought the game home infront of enthusiastic supporters with the final score 30-24.

Down the road on our true home ground, the Under 85s jumped out to a big lead before a persistent Wellington side made them work to hold onto it. We won the game by 35-29 and won the inaugural Richard Kilkenny Cup which will be played for between the two sides in honour of our club and grade stalwart.

In the Swindale Shield match at Hataitai Park, Ryan Setefano led the team onto the field in his 150th Premier game for Marist St Pats. He would go on to be named player of the day after a stellar performance that bagged him two tries.

The side got into their work early with Tui Tuiatua scoring the first try at the nine minute mark. Ryan scored next, followed by Isaia Petelo to take a 17-0 lead into the half time break.

It would take almost 20 minutes in the second half to score again, when Isaia Petelo put in a huge tackle to dislodge the ball from a Rams attacker which was scooped up by replacement wing Rez Tasele who handed off to Ryan to run 35 metres for his second try.

Ofa Siale would score the final try, which was well deserved after a strong performance with ball in hand. Final score was 31-0.

Up at the clubrooms after the games the celebrations continued with presentations to Anna and Ryan, before band 'Man Down' led by Matt Calvert brought the night home.
